In the Catalina Foothills School District, we believe a great education is more than academics. It's about giving every child the chance to explore, create, move, and connect with the world. That’s why K–5 students in CFSD takes part in high-quality programs in
music, physical education, world languages, and visual arts—all taught by expert teachers who know how to inspire young learners.
Music

Music in CFSD elementary schools does more than teach notes and rhythms. It helps children grow in creativity, confidence, and critical thinking. Through singing, movement, instrument play, and guided improvisation, students build a strong musical foundation while learning to listen, collaborate, and express themselves. Our program, aligned with national and state standards, also builds cultural understanding and global awareness, connecting music to the wider world. From grade-level concerts to beginning band performances, music in CFSD is both rigorous and joyful, helping students grow as performers and thinkers.

Physical Education

Physical education at CFSD is more than movement. It’s a key part of a comprehensive education. Starting in kindergarten, students take part in a standards-based program that builds physical skills, encourages healthy habits, and promotes social-emotional well-being.
-
Developmental Approach: Younger students focus on foundational skills like balancing, rolling, and skipping. As they grow, they take on fitness tracking and sport-specific strategies.
-
Beyond the Physical: PE also teaches teamwork, communication, perseverance, and respect through fair play and collaboration.
-
Lifelong Benefits: Whether racing on the playground or playing games in the MPR, students leave with the skills and confidence to lead active, healthy lives.

World Languages
In today’s connected world, learning another language is an essential skill. Our World Languages program starts in elementary school and helps students work toward proficiency. Students learn language as a whole system—vocabulary, grammar, nonverbal cues, and knowing what to say, to whom, and when. They also explore the cultures tied to the language, gaining empathy, perspective, and an appreciation for global diversity. Our approach prepares students to communicate effectively and understand the world around them.

Art

Visual arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education at CFSD. From their earliest years, students create meaningful work that encourages self-expression, deepens understanding, and builds important life skills. Through drawing, painting, sculpture, and design, they learn to communicate ideas, develop craftsmanship, and explore cultural traditions.
Our standards-based program focuses on creating, presenting, responding, and connecting, giving students artistic literacy and confidence.
These programs aren’t “extras.” They are a vital part of every school day in CFSD, helping students become confident, curious, and well-rounded. By integrating music, movement, languages, and art into K–5 education, CFSD gives every child the skills, experiences, and inspiration they need for a future that values imagination, innovation, and connection.
